. The Fox and the Crow

Moral: Beware of flatterers

Once a crow found a piece of cheese in a village market. She flew to a tree and sat on a branch with the cheese in her beak. A hungry fox saw the crow and wanted the cheese. He thought of a trick. The fox came under the tree and praised the crow. He said, “You are the most beautiful bird in the forest. Your feathers are shining and your eyes are bright. I have also heard that your voice is very sweet.” The crow became proud and wanted to sing. As soon as she opened her mouth, the cheese fell down. The clever fox quickly picked it up and ran away. The crow understood her foolishness and felt ashamed. She learned an important lesson that sweet words are not always true. We should never trust flatterers easily.

Moral: Beware of flatterers.

2. The Thirsty Crow

Moral: Necessity is the mother of invention

One hot summer day, a crow became very thirsty. He flew from place to place in search of water but could not find any. After a long time, he saw a pitcher near a house. He became happy and flew down quickly. But when he looked inside the pitcher, he saw only a little water at the bottom. His beak could not reach the water. The crow tried again and again but failed. He was tired and almost hopeless. Suddenly, he got an idea. He noticed some small stones nearby. He picked up the stones one by one and dropped them into the pitcher. Slowly the water rose higher. After some time, the water came near the top. The crow drank the water and satisfied his thirst. Then he happily flew away. Everyone praised the crow for his wisdom and cleverness.

Moral: Necessity is the mother of invention.

3. The Honest Woodcutter

Moral: Honesty is the best policy

Once there lived a poor woodcutter near a forest. Every day he cut wood and sold it in the market. One day he was cutting a tree beside a river. Suddenly, his axe slipped from his hand and fell into the deep water. The poor woodcutter became very sad because it was his only axe. He sat by the river and began to cry. Suddenly, a fairy appeared before him. She asked him why he was crying. After hearing everything, the fairy went into the river and brought out a golden axe. She asked if it was his. The woodcutter replied, “No, it is not mine.” Then the fairy brought a silver axe, but he again refused it. Finally, she brought his old iron axe. The woodcutter happily accepted it. The fairy was pleased with his honesty and rewarded him with all three axes.

Moral: Honesty is the best policy.

4. A Greedy Dog

Moral: Greed brings sorrow

One day a dog found a piece of meat from a butcher’s shop. He held it tightly in his mouth and started walking home happily. On his way, he had to cross a small bridge over a river. While crossing the bridge, he looked down into the water. He saw his own reflection in the clear water, but he thought it was another dog with a bigger piece of meat. The greedy dog wanted to take that meat too. So he opened his mouth to bark at the other dog. As soon as he opened his mouth, his own piece of meat fell into the river and sank. The dog tried to find it but failed. At last, he went away hungry and unhappy. He understood that greed had made him foolish and caused his loss. People should always be satisfied with what they have.

Moral: Greed brings sorrow.

5. The Lion and the Mouse

Moral: Kindness is never wasted

One day a lion was sleeping peacefully in the forest. A little mouse was running nearby and accidentally climbed onto the lion’s body. The lion woke up angrily and caught the mouse with his huge paw. He was about to kill it when the mouse begged for mercy. The mouse said, “Please forgive me this time. One day I may help you.” The lion laughed at the tiny mouse but let it go. A few days later, the lion was caught in a hunter’s net. He roared loudly in fear. The little mouse heard the roar and quickly came there. It started biting the ropes of the net with its sharp teeth. Soon the net was cut and the lion became free. The lion thanked the mouse warmly. He realized that even a small creature can help a powerful one.

Moral: Kindness is never wasted.


6. The Hare and the Tortoise

Moral: Slow and steady wins the race

Once a hare was very proud of his speed. He often laughed at a slow-moving tortoise. One day the tortoise became tired of the hare’s rude jokes and challenged him to a race. The hare accepted the challenge happily. All the animals gathered to watch the race. The race began, and the hare ran very fast. Soon he was far ahead of the tortoise. Seeing the tortoise moving slowly, the hare thought there was plenty of time to rest. He sat under a tree and soon fell asleep. Meanwhile, the tortoise continued walking slowly but steadily. He did not stop even for a moment. After some time, the hare woke up and ran quickly toward the finish line. But it was too late. The tortoise had already reached the finish line and won the race. Everyone praised the tortoise for his patience and determination.

Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.

7. The Farmer and the Goose

Moral: Greed leads to loss

A farmer once had a wonderful goose. Every morning the goose laid a golden egg. The farmer sold the eggs and soon became rich. But after some time, he became greedy. He thought the goose must have a lot of gold inside its body. He wanted to get all the gold at once instead of waiting every day for one egg. One day he killed the goose and cut open its stomach. But he found nothing inside except flesh and blood like any ordinary goose. The foolish farmer lost the goose forever and could no longer get golden eggs. He became poor again and regretted his greed. If he had been patient, he could have remained rich for many years. Greed made him foolish and brought him great loss. We should never become too greedy in life.

Moral: Greed leads to loss.

8. The Clever Fox and the Goat

Moral: Think before you act

One day a fox fell into a deep well. The walls of the well were slippery, so he could not get out. He tried many times but failed. After some time, a thirsty goat came there. The goat looked into the well and saw the fox. He asked, “Why are you inside the well?” The clever fox replied, “The water here is very sweet and cool. I am enjoying it.” The foolish goat believed the fox and jumped into the well to drink water. After drinking, the goat asked how they would get out. The fox quickly climbed onto the goat’s back and jumped out of the well. Before leaving, the fox said, “If you had thought carefully before jumping, you would not be trapped now.” The goat realized his mistake but it was too late.

Moral: Think before you act.

9. A Poor Boy and His Honesty

Moral: Honesty brings reward

Once there was a poor boy who sold fruits in the market to help his family. He was very honest and hardworking. One day a rich man bought some fruits from him and accidentally left a bag behind. The boy opened the bag and found a lot of money inside. Although he was poor, he did not think of keeping the money. Instead, he waited for the owner. After some time, the rich man returned looking worried. The boy gave him the bag politely. The rich man became very happy and asked, “Why did you not keep the money?” The boy replied, “It is not mine. My parents taught me to be honest.” The rich man was pleased with the boy’s honesty. He rewarded him with some money and also helped him continue his studies. The boy became respected by everyone in the village.

Moral: Honesty brings reward.

10. Unity is Strength

Moral: United we stand, divided we fall

Once an old farmer had four sons. They always quarreled among themselves and never lived peacefully. The farmer became very worried about them. One day he called all his sons together and gave them a bundle of sticks. He asked them to break the bundle. Each son tried hard, but none could break it. Then the farmer untied the bundle and gave them the sticks one by one. This time they broke the sticks easily. The farmer said, “If you stay united like the bundle of sticks, nobody can harm you. But if you become divided, anyone can defeat you.” The sons understood their father’s lesson and promised never to quarrel again. From that day they lived together happily and helped one another in every problem. Their unity made the family strong and peaceful.

Moral: United we stand, divided we fall.
