Begum Rokeya was a pioneer in women's rights and education in undivided Bengal throughout her life.
Born in 1880 in Pairabondh, Rangpur, she was married in 1897 to Syed Sakhawat Hussain, a supportive Deputy Magistrate.
Despite the period's norms favoring Arabic and Persian, she pursued learning Bangla and English from her brother, eventually establishing a school for girls. [1, 2, 3]
