The Five Types of Nouns
| Noun Type | Description (বিবরণ) | Examples (উদাহরণ) |
| 1. Proper Noun | নির্দিষ্ট কোনো ব্যক্তি, স্থান বা জিনিসের নাম। (Specific names) | Karim, Bangladesh, The Quran, Friday |
| 2. Common Noun | এক জাতীয় ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর সাধারণ নাম। (General names) | Boy, Girl, River, Country, Flower |
| 3. Collective Noun | এক জাতীয় কয়েকটিকে আলাদাভাবে না বুঝিয়ে সমষ্টিকে বোঝায়। (Groups) | Class, Army, Team, Family, Flock |
| 4. Material Noun | কোনো পদার্থের নাম যা সংখ্যা দিয়ে গণনা করা যায় না (ওজন করা যায়)। (Materials/Substances) | Water, Gold, Milk, Iron, Sugar |
| 5. Abstract Noun | কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর গুণ, অবস্থা বা কাজের নাম যা দেখা যায় না। (Ideas/Feelings) | Honesty, Happiness, Childhood, Bravery |
Quick Tips for Identification
Proper vs. Common: A Proper Noun always starts with a capital letter (e.g., London), while a Common Noun usually doesn't (e.g., city) unless it starts a sentence.
The "Touch" Test: You can usually touch things described by the first four nouns (Concrete nouns). However, you cannot touch an Abstract Noun (you can't touch "Honesty," you can only see the results of it).
Material vs. Common: A "Ring" is a Common Noun (you can count 1, 2, 3 rings), but the "Gold" it is made of is a Material Noun (you weigh it, you don't count "one gold, two golds").
