📖 Degree Change Rules

Degree change মানে হলো বাক্যের অর্থ একদম অপরিবর্তিত রেখে Positive, Comparative ও Superlative — এই তিন degree এর মধ্যে বাক্য রূপান্তর করা। একই কথা তিনভাবে বলা যায়: Positive: No other boy in the class is as tall as Rahim. Comparative: Rahim is taller than any other boy in the class. Superlative: Rahim is the tallest boy in the class. তিনটি বাক্যের অর্থ হুবহু এক, শুধু গঠন আলাদা।

SSC ও HSC পরীক্ষার Transformation of Sentence অংশে degree change থেকে প্রতি বছরই প্রশ্ন আসে। এই পোস্টে degree change rules এমনভাবে সাজানো হয়েছে যাতে নিয়ম, টেবিল, ভুল-সঠিক উদাহরণ, পরীক্ষার টিপস ও অনুশীলনী — সব এক জায়গায় পেয়ে যান।

Degree কাকে বলে? Degree কত প্রকার

Adjective বা Adverb এর যে রূপ দিয়ে তুলনা বোঝানো হয়, তাকে Degree of Comparison বলে। Degree তিন প্রকার।

মনে রাখুন: Comparative সবসময় দুজনের মধ্যে তুলনা করে (than বসে), আর Superlative দুইয়ের অধিকের মধ্যে সেরা বা সবচেয়ে খারাপকে চিহ্নিত করে (সাধারণত the বসে)।

Comparative ও Superlative গঠনের নিয়ম

Degree change শেখার প্রথম ধাপ হলো adjective এর সঠিক comparative ও superlative রূপ জানা। বানানের নিয়মগুলো টেবিলে দেওয়া হলো।

নিয়ম ১: ছোট Adjective এ -er ও -est যোগ

এক syllable বা ছোট adjective এর শেষে -er যোগে Comparative এবং -est যোগে Superlative হয়।

উদাহরণ: Dhaka is bigger than Khulna. / Buriganga is the most polluted — এই বাক্যটি ভুল, সঠিক রূপ নিচের নিয়মে দেখুন।

নিয়ম ২: -e দিয়ে শেষ হওয়া Adjective এ -r ও -st যোগ

নিয়ম ৩: শেষের Consonant Double হয়

শব্দের শেষ তিনটি বর্ণ consonant-vowel-consonant হলে শেষের consonant টি double করে -er ও -est যোগ হয়।

নিয়ম ৪: Consonant + y থাকলে y বদলে i হয়

লক্ষ্য করুন: y এর আগে vowel থাকলে y বদলায় না — যেমন grey → greyer, gay → gayer।

নিয়ম ৫: লম্বা Adjective এ more ও most বসে

দুই বা ততোধিক syllable এর adjective এর আগে more বসিয়ে Comparative এবং most বসিয়ে Superlative করা হয়।

নিয়ম ৬: Irregular Adjective (মুখস্থ করতে হবে)

কিছু adjective কোনো নিয়ম মানে না — এদের রূপ সম্পূর্ণ বদলে যায়। পরীক্ষায় এগুলো থেকেই বেশি ভুল হয়।

গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পার্থক্য: Elder/Eldest শুধু একই পরিবারের সদস্যদের বয়সের তুলনায় বসে এবং এদের পরে than বসে না। যেমন: My elder brother is a teacher. কিন্তু দুই বন্ধুর বয়সের তুলনায় older বসবে: Rahim is older than Karim.

Adverb এর Degree Change

বেশিরভাগ শিক্ষার্থী শুধু adjective এর degree শেখে, কিন্তু পরীক্ষায় adverb এর degree change ও আসে। এই অংশটুকু অনেক গাইড বইতেই থাকে না।

উদাহরণ:

• Positive: He runs fast.

• Comparative: He runs faster than his brother.

• Superlative: He runs fastest of all the boys.

• Positive: She sings well.

• Comparative: She sings better than her sister.

• Superlative: She sings best in the class.

মনে রাখুন: well, better, best — good এর adverb রূপ হিসেবে বসে। "He speaks good English" ভুল; সঠিক হলো "He speaks English well."

Degree Change এর বাক্য রূপান্তরের নিয়ম

এবার আসল কাজ — বাক্য থেকে বাক্যে রূপান্তর। পরীক্ষায় মূলত ৬ ধরনের রূপান্তর আসে। প্রতিটি নিয়ম সূত্রসহ টেবিলে দেওয়া হলো।

নিয়ম ১: Positive (No other) → Comparative

সূত্র: শেষের Subject + verb + not + Comparative + than any other + No other এর পরের অংশ

নিয়ম ২: Positive (No other) → Superlative

সূত্র: শেষের Subject + verb + the + Superlative + No other এর পর থেকে verb এর আগের অংশ

নিয়ম ৩: Positive (Very few) → Comparative

সূত্র: শেষের Subject + verb + Comparative + than most other + Very few এর পরের অংশ

নিয়ম ৪: Positive (Very few) → Superlative

সূত্র: শেষের Subject + verb + one of the + Superlative + Very few এর পর থেকে verb এর আগের অংশ

নিয়ম ৫: Comparative → Positive

Than any other থাকলে No other দিয়ে, than most other থাকলে Very few দিয়ে positive করতে হয়।

নিয়ম ৬: Superlative → Comparative ও Positive

নিয়ম ৭: সাধারণ as...as যুক্ত Positive → Comparative

No other বা Very few না থাকলে not যোগে comparative করা হয়।

এক নজরে সিদ্ধান্ত টেবিল

বাক্যে কোন চিহ্ন (marker) দেখলে কোন রূপ বসবে — পরীক্ষার হলে এই টেবিলটা মনে রাখুন।

Degree Change এ সাধারণ ভুল (ভুল বনাম সঠিক)

পরীক্ষায় নম্বর কাটার সবচেয়ে বড় কারণ হলো এই ভুলগুলো। প্রতিটি ভুলের পাশে সঠিক রূপ ও কারণ দেওয়া হলো।

Verb ও subject মেলানোর নিয়মে দুর্বলতা থাকলে Subject Verb Agreement এর নিয়ম আগে ঝালিয়ে নিন — degree change এর বাক্যেও verb ঠিক রাখা বাধ্যতামূলক।

পরীক্ষায় ভালো নম্বর পাওয়ার টিপস

1. আগে marker চিহ্নিত করুন: বাক্যে No other, Very few, than any other, than most other, one of the — কোনটি আছে দেখুন, তারপর উপরের সিদ্ধান্ত টেবিল অনুযায়ী রূপ বসান।

2. অর্থ কখনোই বদলাবেন না: Degree change এ অর্থ এক থাকতে হবে — শুধু গঠন বদলাবে। অর্থ বদলে গেলে পুরো নম্বর কাটা যায়।

3. Verb ও pronoun ঠিক রাখুন: No other এর পরে singular verb, Very few এর পরে plural verb — এই ছোট ভুলেই নম্বর যায়।

4. The ও one of the গুলিয়ে ফেলবেন না: than any other থাকলে the + superlative, than most other থাকলে one of the + superlative।

5. Irregular রূপ মুখস্থ রাখুন: good-better-best, bad-worse-worst পরীক্ষায় সবচেয়ে বেশি আসে।

6. বানান সতর্কভাবে লিখুন: heavier, happiest, bigger — ভুল বানানে নম্বর কাটা যায়।

7. অনুশীলনীর প্রতিটি বাক্য আগে নিজে করে তারপর উত্তর মিলিয়ে নিন — শুধু পড়ে মুখস্থ করলে পরীক্ষায় কাজে লাগে না।

Degree change কাকে বলে?

বাক্যের অর্থ অপরিবর্তিত রেখে Positive, Comparative ও Superlative degree এর মধ্যে বাক্য রূপান্তর করাকে degree change বলে। যেমন: "No other boy is as tall as Rahim" (Positive) থেকে "Rahim is the tallest boy" (Superlative) — অর্থ এক, রূপ ভিন্ন।

Positive থেকে superlative করার নিয়ম কী?

No other দিয়ে শুরু হওয়া positive বাক্যকে শেষের subject + verb + the + superlative রূপে সাজাতে হয়। যেমন: "No other metal is as useful as iron" → "Iron is the most useful metal."

Very few যুক্ত positive কে superlative করলে কী হয়?

"One of the" যুক্ত superlative হয়। যেমন: "Very few boys are as good as Rahim" → "Rahim is one of the best boys." এখানে শুধু the বসালে ভুল হবে।

Comparative degree তে the বসে কি?

না। Comparative এর সাথে than বসে, the বসে না। শুধু superlative এর আগে the বসে। যেমন: "taller than" সঠিক, "the taller" ভুল।

Degree change এ অর্থ বদলে গেলে কি নম্বর পাওয়া যায়?

না। Degree change এর মূল শর্তই হলো অর্থ অপরিবর্তিত রাখা। অর্থ বদলে গেলে উত্তর ভুল ধরা হয় এবং নম্বর দেওয়া হয় না।

SSC পরীক্ষায় degree change থেকে কত নম্বর আসে?

SSC English 2nd Paper এর Transformation of Sentence অংশে degree change থেকে সাধারণত ১টি প্রশ্ন (১ নম্বর) আসে, কখনো Completing Sentence বা অন্য অংশেও এর প্রয়োগ লাগে। HSC তেও একইভাবে আসে।

উপসংহার

Degree change এর পুরো খেলাটাই হলো marker চেনা আর সঠিক সূত্র প্রয়োগ করা। No other দেখলে than any other বা the + superlative, Very few দেখলে than most other বা one of the + superlative — এই দুটি জোড়া মনে রাখলেই অর্ধেক কাজ শেষ। বাকি অর্ধেক হলো adjective এর সঠিক comparative-superlative রূপ ও বানান। উপরের টেবিলগুলো কয়েকবার অনুশীলন করলে পরীক্ষায় degree change থেকে পূর্ণ নম্বর তোলা কঠিন হবে না।

Transformation of Sentence এর অন্যান্য নিয়ম ভালোভাবে জানতে Tense এর নিয়ম পড়ে নিন — বাক্যের verb সঠিক রাখতে tense এর জ্ঞান degree change এর বাক্যেও কাজে লাগে।
